What’s new this week in 🇫🇷
⚛️ Macron announces €1.55B for quantum computing and microelectronics
Emmanuel Macron unveiled plans to invest €1 billion in quantum computing and €550 million in microelectronics drawn from what remains of the France 2030 fund. The timing is no coincidence as US tech giants have been snapping up quantum startups and running circles around Europe on semiconductor funding. Meanwhile, Pasqal's recent SPAC plans highlight how French quantum champions are already weighing US listings to access growth capital. Whether money from the state can substitute for a deeper private-market ecosystem is an open question, but the capital allocation from French 2030 certainly won’t hurt.
🪖 Airbus breaks ground on €260M digital defense campus outside Paris
Airbus announced a new €260 million "Campus Grand Paris" dedicated to developing digital technologies for the military. The facility is set to house 1,700 employees who will work on AI, cybersecurity, quantum, and secure information systems near the Paris-Saclay tech cluster. It follows recent major industrial site investments from Safran and Dassault as part of France's broader play to position itself as Europe's defense-tech hub.
🤖 Kyutai and ELLIS Institute launch KE:SAI, a Franco-German physical AI lab
French AI lab Kyutai and Germany's ELLIS Institute launched KE:SAI, a non-profit frontier AI research lab co-located in Paris and Tübingen dedicated to "physical AI"—the 2026 term for AI-enabled robots. The partnership aims to further research that will teach machines to understand and act in the real world. The first major milestone will be building a fully open-source self-driving stack with extensions planned into robotics, manufacturing, and healthcare. The bet is a two-fold play to compete with US hyperscalers. While Europe can’t keep up on spending, they can counter-position by focusing on openness and cross-border partnerships to attract the elite talent that otherwise flocks to companies like DeepMind and OpenAI.
🤖 Mistral AI acquires Emmi AI, its second acquisition in six months
Mistral AI acquired Austrian startup Emmi AI, a company focused on industrial AI for aerospace, automotive, semiconductor, and manufacturing. This latest deal comes hot on the heals of Mistral’s acquisition of French infrastructure startup Koyeb earlier this year. Adding Emmi AI’s vertical-specific knowledge also signals Mistral’s aim to expand beyond being a model API provider and enter into specific high-value vertical fields. For Serena, which backed Emmi AI, this is the second Mistral-delivered exit in a year.
🇪🇺 EQT wins €5B Scaleup Europe Fund mandate
The European Commission selected Swedish private equity giant EQT to manage its new €5 billion Scaleup Europe Fund, beating out Atomico, Eurazeo, and a crowded field of European investors that had been circling the mandate for months. The fund is designed to bridge the capital gap between Europe and the US for frontier tech companies in AI, quantum, defense, clean energy, and space.
🤖 Singulier and Ommax merge to build a €80-100M European AI consulting platform
It’s been a big week for Franco-German partnerships. French AI consultancy Singulier merged with German peer Ommax to create a 400-person platform targeting €80–100 million in revenue, backed by Eurazeo, with ambitions to triple in five years. The combined entity is positioning itself as the European alternative for AI transformation mandates that currently go to Accenture or McKinsey. While Franco-German collaboration is having a moment it remains to be seen whether AI consulting can scale like AI software.

New Funding 💶
14 companies announced €171.63 million in new funding last week.

Novaleum | €1M | 🌡️ Climate Tech
Lyon-based Novaleum raised €1 million in a Pre-Seed round from business angels to industrialise its technology for converting fatty waste from restaurant grease traps and food processing residues into biofuels and biogas. Spun out of three Lyon research labs (ILM, ICBMS, and IUT Lyon 1's chemistry department), the company uses a patented continuous thermomechanical separation process; each modular unit can process 1,000 tonnes of fatty waste per year and yield 100 tonnes of advanced biofuels.
Ellipse Bikes | €1.5M | 🛣️ Transportation
Based in Troyes, Ellipse Bikes raised €1.5 million in its first equity funding round with SideAngels, Bpifrance, and Caisse d'Épargne, topped up by a Crowdcube crowdfunding campaign. The company makes French-assembled urban bikes for the B2B market, pairing the bike itself with leasing, insurance, and employer fiscal support tools so independent cycle shops can offer vélo de fonction packages to local businesses without needing complex infrastructure of their own.
Cigno | €1.5M | 🗣️ AI Agents
Cigno raised €1.5 million from sector business angels, including former senior executives from Swissquote, DLA Piper, and Reyl Intesa Sanpaolo, to build AI infrastructure purpose-built for management consulting firms. The entire platform runs on Scaleway with a fleet of 80 LLMs including European open-weight models so client knowledge bases never leave the firm’s environment. Pilots are currently live in France, the UK, and Switzerland.
Mediads | €3M | 📢 MarTech
Paris-based Mediads raised €3 million in a Seed round led by Seventure Partners with 404 Ventures and business angels. Founded in 2022 by Alfred Cardinal and Stéphane Labrouche, the company lets brands run social ad campaigns through the accounts of 250+ premium media publishers like Figaro, Brut, Euronews, and Time Out with clients reporting up to +150% performance gains on identical campaigns.
Leadbay | €3.7M | ↔️ B2B Software
YC-backed Leadbay raised €3.7 million ($4.3 million) in a Seed round with Rebel Ventures, Roosh Ventures, and a clutch of angel investors from Deel, Gusto, and Pennylane. The startup builds AI-powered sales prospecting for industries where most businesses have no digital footprint like construction, hospitality, retail, and local services. These are the same segments that tools like LinkedIn Sales Navigator and Apollo simply can't see because there's company website or LinkedIn profile to find. The round will fund further US go-to-market expansion in San Francisco and a research partnership with Sorbonne University to improve the company’s underlying AI inference models.
Dealinka | €6.5M | ♻️ Circular Economy
Founded in Valenciennes in 2023, Dealinka raised €6.5 million in a growth round led by Re-Sources. The company manages the full operational, logistical, and regulatory complexity of redistributing large volumes of unsold non-food goods from major corporations to charities. Three years in, the company has reached 64 employees, €5.1 million in revenue, 45,000 pallets processed, and €31 million in donations redistributed. The round will fund further European expansion and continued product development.
Lupin & Holmes | €5M | 🛡️ Cybersecurity
Lupin & Holmes raised €5 million ($5.9 million) in a Pre-Seed round co-led by 20VC and Seedcamp with participation from Purple Fund, Kima Ventures, and founders of Wiz, Hugging Face, and GitGuardian. The company, named after popular fictional characters Arsène Lupin and Sherlock Holmes, was founded by 24-year-old Roni Carta. That’s the same Roni Carti who earned nearly $800,000 in bug bounty rewards from Google, Amazon, Netflix, and PayPal before turning 23. Carta is putting his skills to further use on Lupin & Holmes’ platform Depi, which maps software supply chain attack paths and detects threats before they create problems. Depi gained early attention for spotting a worm targeting Mistral AI 25 days before it struck and already counts several Fortune 500 clients amongst its user base, including Ledger.
Virtual Browser | €6M | 🛡️ Cybersecurity
Virtual Browser raised €6 million in a Seed round from GO Capital, BNP Paribas Développement, Auriga Cyber Ventures, and Bpifrance to expand its remote browser isolation platform across Europe. Their product runs browsing sessions server-side and streams a pixel-perfect view to the user's device to prevent malware and phishing attacks. Already deployed to 150,000 users across a client list that includes Thales, Dassault, and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the company is now building out mobile apps for iOS and Android and pursuing additional European security certifications.
Mister IA | €10M | 🤖 AI
Mister IA raised €10 million in a growth round led by Momentum Invest with 199 Ventures, with founders Vincent and Martin Pavanello retaining majority. The AI consulting firm deploys AI agents directly into client workflows (think forward-deployed engineers rather than slide decks) for enterprises like Vinci, Mercedes, Clarins, Thales, and the French Army.
Otrera | €10M | ☢️ Nuclear Energy
Aix-en-Provence-based Otrera raised €10 million in a strategic investment round with EDF, Groupe ADF and others plus €7.5 million in non-dilutive public funding from France 2030. The company is building a fourth-generation sodium-cooled small modular reactor (SMR) of 110 MWe. This is the same technology France has tried and abandoned three times, which is why the company's pitch is essentially "the fourth time is the charm." The round funds a detailed pre-project phase and dedicated testing infrastructure ahead of a planned factory opening in Cherbourg and future €40 million third round at the end of the year.
Sonomind | €20M | 🩺 Medtech
Paris-based Sonomind raised €20 million in a Series A round led by Critical Path Ventures with participation from Bpifrance's French Tech Seed and Deep Tech 2030 programs. The company has built a non-invasive brain stimulation device for treatment-resistant depression without requiring an implant. Picture a helmet that uses low-intensity focused ultrasound and a custom acoustic lens to hit deep brain structures with surgical precision minus the surgery. Early clinical results published in Brain Stimulation showed a 60%+ reduction in symptom severity after five daily sessions with no significant side effects. The funding will go toward randomized multicenter trials targeting regulatory approval by 2029.
Prelude | €17.23M | 🛡️ Cybersecurity
Paris-based Prelude raised €17.2 million ($20 million) in a Series A round led by 20VC with Singular, Seedcamp, Deel, and FDJ UNITED Ventures. The company builds the trust infrastructure behind login and signup flows with an aim to replace CAPTCHAs and SMS codes with AI signals drawn from telecom data, device intelligence, and behavioral patterns across 230 countries. Revenue and customers each grew 6x in the past year and clients like BeReal, Sunday, Suno, and Voodoo are already using Prelude to distinguish real users from bots at scale.
Dust | €34.5M | 🗣️ AI Agents
Dust, the enterprise AI platform, has raised €34.5 million ($40 million) in a Series B round co-led by Sequoia and Abstract with Snowflake and Datadog also participating. The company has created a portal that lets enterprises deploy and manage AI agents with shared memory, business-specific context, and secure access to shared projects in the same way human employees share a Notion or a Slack. Founded by two ex-Stripe engineers, including one who spent three years at OpenAI, Dust has over 3,000 organizations on their platform with more than 300,000 agents deployed. The new round will go toward developing agents that learn and improve autonomously along with further improved enterprise governance tooling.
UroMems | €51.7M | 🩺 Medtech
Based in Grenoble, UroMems raised €51.7 million ($60 million) in a strategic investment round backed by US-based Ajax Health Fund I to support pivotal clinical trials and market preparation for its UroActive smart implant. The company makes an automated robotic implant that treats urinary incontinence by using MEMS-based sensors and algorithms to adapt to the patient's activity level in real time. The funding will carry UroMems through the SOPHIA2 trial running across 21 investigational sites in the US and France ahead of regulatory submissions in both markets.
