What’s new this week in 🇫🇷
👨⚖️ X refuses to hand over data in “politically motivated” investigation: We have now gone 1 0 weeks without fresh drama with Elon Musk. This latest controversy involves a French government investigation into whether the company’s algorithm was misused to distort discourse on the app for the purpose of foreign interference. The investigation, which began in January, received pushback last week from X, with the company refusing to hand over data and calling the inquiry an action designed “to restrict free speech.”
🙅♂️ Meta refuses to sign the EU's AI "Code of Practice": The voluntary set of rules covers hot-button topics like copyright, transparency, and safety and is intended to provide companies with a guide for complying with the AI Act (GPAI), which goes into effect on August 2. So far, Meta is the only major US tech company that has refused to sign.
🔋 Electra closes €433M debt financing: The new capital brings the total available funding for the electric vehicle charging startup to over €1 billion. During a panel I attended at VivaTech, Electra CEO Aurelien de Meaux said “We have an extreme focus. We do 1 thing: public fast charging. We are going to do it extremely well and scale it.” With the new funding, Electra has the means to scale and scale quickly. The company currently operates 500 charging stations across 9 countries and aims to more than 4X the number of stations in the next 5 years.

OnParty | €1M | 🗓️ Events
Paris-based OnParty has raised €1 million to expand its social event platform that connects partygoers, DJs, clubs, and organizers across major nightlife cities. The app combines event discovery, organization, and networking tools to simplify and personalize the nightlife experience. The round will support international expansion and new AI-driven features.
Greenphage | €1.9M | 🧬 Biotech
Montpellier-based Greenphage has raised €1.9 million from IRDI Capital Investissement, SOFILARO, Sud Mer Invest, and others to expand production of its bacteriophage-based wastewater treatment solutions. The biotech startup’s technology uses natural viruses to eliminate harmful bacteria like E. coli from industrial and municipal water systems. The funding will help launch its first industrial production unit and treat up to 150 sites by 2026.
Austral Dx | €2.5M | 🩺 HealthTech
France-based Austral DX has raised €2.5 million in its first funding round from Sorbonne Venture, Aloe Private Equity, Kima Ventures, and others. The startup is developing a contactless, AI-enhanced diagnostic device that uses airborne ultrasound to map chest movements and assess cardiopulmonary health in under two minutes. The funding will support continued development and upcoming clinical trials.
Voltaïca | €2.5M | ⚡ Energy
Corsica-based Voltaïca raised €2.5 million from local asset manager FemuQuì to support its international expansion and launch operations in Italy. Founded in 2008, the company develops and operates solar and storage power plants, with over 600 projects across France. The funds will also help scale its energy self-consumption offerings and prepare for a Series B round by the end of 2025.
Praysbee | €3M | 🍇 AgTech
Bordeaux-based Praysbee raised €3 million from Demeter and the Nouvelle-Aquitaine regional fund NACO to scale production of its Wulp sprayer, which uses pulse width modulation to precisely manage pesticide application in vineyards. The funds will support industrialization, new feature development, and hiring.
Median Technologies | €22M | 🩻 HealthTech
Sophia Antipolis-based medtech Median Technologies raised €22 million to support the U.S. commercialization of its AI-powered lung cancer screening software, eyonis® LCS, and to develop other diagnostic tools. The round is backed by institutional investors, ahead of a potential €37.5 million agreement with the European Investment Bank.
MagREEsource | €23M | 🧲 Deeptech
Grenoble-based industrial deeptech startup MagREEsource has raised €23 million to scale its low-carbon permanent magnet manufacturing, using recycled rare earths. Backers include Bpifrance's SPI fund, FININDUS, BNP Paribas Développement, and others. The funding supports the next phase of its circular production model and prepares for a large-scale factory launch by 2028.
